New Government Physical Activity Guidelines,
the Workplace Connection

Source: Kristen Cederlind

“Move more, sit less!” Some physical activity is better than none. Read the top 10 things you should know about the updated Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans and link to the full edition, recently released by the Department of Health and Human Services. Includes activity guidelines/recommendations for all ages.

In chapters 7 and 8 of the full guide, you’ll find the workplace connection, with tips about safety while increasing activity and workplace options for expanding physical activity.

These 3 tips can be quick wins to start the conversation at your company about “move more, sit less:”

  • Suggest changing positions regularly and taking 2 mini stretch breaks every hour
  • Recommend looking away from the computer at least once every 20 minutes
  • Remind that movement encourages blood flow. If sitting all day, stand up! If standing all day, walk!
